Return To Work / Lease Consolidation

TRANSFORMING THE FEDERAL WORKPLACE

How a Mobile Workforce is Improving Space Utilization, Cost Savings, and Job Satisfaction

RETURN TO WORK

The COVID-19 pandemic has driven profound shifts in the federal workplace that present agencies with a rare opportunity to design the future of work itself.

Strategic Results partners with agencies to build on the lessons learned during the pandemic, including addressing new workforce needs and consolidating leased space to create qualitative and quantitative benefits.

SR helps our clients evaluate their existing workspace, assess workforce flexibility and mobility, and create a roadmap for transformation requirements. We build long-term partnerships to help navigate routine and unexpected changes.

Our Return to Work Services support agencies in three primary ways:

1

Identifying Practical and Cultural Concerns to Update Goals

Redefining Job Satisfaction for Mobile Workforces

Our tailored planning and design rely on a keen understanding of agency culture and employee needs to ease the transition to a more flexible, high-performing workplace that is consistent with OMB and GSA requirements.

Engaging Workers Through Effective Communication

SR uses stakeholder meetings, task forces, surveys, and focus groups to ensure that feedback from agency stakeholders guides every step of solution development, from pilot project design to final implementation.

By facilitating communication channels, such as newsletters, posters, media, and information bulletins, we promote intra-agency transparency about workplace transformation processes and goals to minimize barriers and resistance to change.

2

Reimagining Workplace Design and Planning for Future Requirements

Enhancing Utilization Rate

We use Federal Real Property Profile (FRPP) data as well as agency-specific data to develop realistic office utilization approaches that redefine the way agencies use space.

Designing for Workplace Flexibility, Collaboration, and Sustainability

Our experts leverage industry knowledge in architecture, interior design, engineering, human resources, and technology modernization to create custom floor plans that reflect agency culture, enhance collaboration and employee productivity, and promote energy conservation, sustainability, and efficient use of space.

3

Ensuring a Smooth Transition

Implementing Tailored Change Management Strategies

SR collaborates with leadership, unions, and staff to develop and implement change management strategies that encourage agency-wide buy-in and address barriers to change.

Providing Comprehensive Agency Support

SR works with agency stakeholders to create a full spectrum of workforce training to educate staff and leadership on the objectives, benefits, and impacts of change. From live training to facilitating town hall meetings and surveys, we guide agencies to create smooth workplace transitions and lasting results.

LEASE CONSOLIDATION

In 2012, agencies launched efforts to reduce their portfolio of office and warehouse space in response to OMB’s “Freeze the Footprint” policy. Now, as COVID-19 restrictions end, federal leadership is considering how to return to work while adapting spaces to reflect the new mobile workforce and decrease leasing and other space-related costs.

Reduction in leased space is needed to keep costs static

Without any action, federal property costs will continue to escalate. Leased rate escalation and existing building utilization will ultimately challenge efforts to reduce leased costs.

In keeping with GSA’s Lease Cost Avoidance plan, Strategic Results’ lease consolidation strategies offer creative and efficient ways to use office space that reflect new work patterns and promote worker satisfaction while reducing costs.
