Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits
Educational Objectives
The educational objectives of this conference are to describe and discuss the latest clinical and research advances as they apply to Acute Lung Injury.
Upon completion of this conference, the attendees will:
- Understand the current definition of ARDS and the limitations of defining ARDS and disease outcome based on phenotyping;
- Understand the current approaches in clinical management of acute lung injury including ventilator strategies;
- Be able to explain the current challenges for successful ARDS clinical trials;
- Be aware of the newer signaling mediators of ARDS involved in cellular injury, death, and cytoprotection;
- Be aware of existing preclinical studies on the use of stem cells in acute lung injury;
- Understand novel pathways implicated in the lung’s innate immune response.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience for this conference is physicians and scholars within the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC community, regional healthcare providers, and others involved in the care of critically ill patients. Most attendees will be critical care and pulmonary physicians, doctors in general medical fields, and allied health professionals (e.g., nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists). Secondarily, because of its emphasis on clinical and scientific investigation, the seminars will also target basic, translational, and clinical investigators with interests in ARDS, pneumonia, and sepsis research. Further, because the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC is an internationally recognized leader in pulmonary and critical care and research, the conference will also target biomedical researchers from around the United States, internationally, and within industry.
