The Role of Angiopoietin-1 in Pulmonary Hypertension (Summary of Presentation)

Patricia A. Thistlewaite, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of California, San Diego. She joined the faculty of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University of California, San Diego in 1997.

Dr. Thistlewaite is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University with honors in chemistry and biology.  She attended Harvard Medical School, graduating magna cum laude with MD and PhD degrees in 1989.  Dr. Thistlethwaite completed her general surgery residency training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and cardiothoracic surgery residency training at the University of Pittsburgh. Her clinical interests include adult cardiac surgery (coronary bypass and valve reconstruction), heart and lung transplantation, and complex thoracic cases.

In addition to cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Thistlewaite runs an active molecular biology laboratory on the UCSD campus, which focuses on innovative approaches to pulmonary vascular disease and cardiac angiogenesis.  Her national recognition has led to elected membership in the American Association of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Western Thoracic Surgical Association, and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.  She is the author of over 80 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.
