Research Opportunities
Dr. Stenmark is Professor of Pediatrics and Head of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and of the Developmental Lung Biology Laboratory at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) and The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He joined the faculty at UCHSC in 1980 as an Instructor in Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics moving to Assistant Professor in 1984 to Associate Professor with Tenure in 1989 to full Professor with tenure in 1994. He has been the Division Head of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine since 1987.
Dr. Stenmark earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1977 and completed a three-year residency (1977-1980) in Pediatrics at UCHSC and from 1980-1981 served as Pediatric Chief Resident. Between 1981-1982, Dr. Stenmark had a Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at The Children’s Hospital in Denver. From 1982-1984, he had a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Pulmonary Research at UCHSC under John V. Weil, MD and John T. Reeves, MD.
Co-author of 173 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Stenmark is currently Principal Investigator on a number of NIH grants in the areas of immature pulmonary circulation, hypoxic vascular modeling, and pediatric pulmonary disease and has previously provided research support on a number of other NIH grants. He has received numerous international honors and awards, sits on several major national, international, and grant review committees in his field, and is a reviewer and sits on the Editorial Board for the NEMJ and other noted journals. Dr. Stenmark has been a visiting professor or invited lecturer throughout Europe and North America.
