Pulmonary Hypertension associated with Respiratory Disorders (Summary of Presentation)

Dr. Naeije currently holds the following positions: Consultant at the Department of Cardiology, and Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic of the Erasme University Hospital, Brussels, Chairman of the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology of the
Faculty of Medicine of the Free University of Brussels; and Professor of Physiology and Pathophysiology at the Faculty of Medicine, and of Exercise Physiology and Sports Medicine at the Institute of Sports Medicine, Free University of Brussels.  After completing his residency there, he moved from Attending to Staff member to Associate Director of the Department of Intensive Care of the Erasme University Hospital, Brussels, until 1997

Dr. Naeije earned his medical degree from the Free University of Brussels in 1973 and completed his PhD thesis on human hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction in 1983 at this same institution.

Dr. Naeije is a member of the Board of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and his main research interest is the pulmonary circulation.  Co-author of thirty-six book chapters, he has also published 221 references in the Medline.  He was senior author of a representative report in Circulation 2001; 103: 2078-2083 entitled “High altitude pulmonary edema is initially caused by an increased capillary pressure”.
