Pulmonary Hypertension Associated with Liver Disease (Summary of Presentation)
Dr. Krowka is Professor of Medicine at Mayo College of Medicine and Vice Chair of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. From 1986-1993, he was Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mayo College of Medicine and Chair of the Division of Thoracic Diseases and Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida. From 1986-1996, Dr. Krowka was a Consultant for the Division of Thoracic Disease, Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville. Then, from 1993-2000, he was Associate Professor of Medicine at the Mayo College of Medicine.
In 1968, Dr. Krowka received his BS in Mathematics with honors from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. In 1973, he earned his MS in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Nevada. Then in 1980, he received his MD from the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada. In 1981, he completed a one-year medical internship followed by a two-year Internal Medicine Residency at Northwestern University Medical School. From 1983-1986, Dr. Krowka had a Pulmonary Fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
Co-author of more than seventy peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Krowka has been involved in seven research projects involving pulmonary hypertension, portopulmonary hypertension, and pulmonary hemodynamics in liver transplant candidates with moderate portopulmonary hypertension. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Association for the Study for Liver Diseases. Dr. Krowka is also presently Chair of the Education Materials Writing Group, AlphaOne Foundation and Chair of the Medical Sessions Committee for 2008 PHA Meeting in Houston, Texas. He has received honors and awards such as the 1994 Service Award, National Alpha 1-Anttrypsin Deficiency Association, Florida Chapter and was a 2002 Pulmonary Division Laureate at the Mayo Clinic.
