Welcome
Dear Colleague:
The National Institutes of Health is pleased to invite you to our meeting on the Evolution of Pulmonary Hypertension: Emerging Diseases and Novel Therapeutics, December 7-8, 2006, in Bethesda, Maryland.
This conference will bring together leading thinkers in the field to review current understanding of the pathobiology, pathogenesis, and therapy of pulmonary hypertension (PH). Presentations include the following topics:
- History of PH, focusing on development of current therapies and the role of combination therapy;
- Pathobiology of pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure, highlighting the role of inflammatory mediators, angiogenesis, and genetic susceptibility;
- Emerging diseases associated with pulmonary hypertension such as sickle cell disease, other hemolytic disorders, HIV, and respiratory disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis;
- Potential novel therapies, including antioxidants, nitric oxide donors, vasodilators with pleotrophic effects, and antiproliferative agents.
Our goals for this conference are threefold: to provide a forum to present new concepts in basic, translational, and clinical pulmonary hypertension research; to promote scientific exchange of ideas; and, ultimately, to foster research collaboration.
We are grateful for the generous funding of this meeting by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Rare Diseases, Office of the Director; Critical Care Medicine Department, Clinical Center; and the Clinical Center Bench-to-Bedside Awards.
We look forward to welcoming you to Bethesda in December.
Sincerely,
