Physiological Concentrations of Nitrite modulate Contractility in the Vertebrate Heart (Summary of Presentation)

Dr Tota is a Full Professor of general physiology, specializing in comparative cardiovascular physiology.  He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the "University Federico II" in Naples, Italy, where he then completed a master’s degree in cardiology.  Dr Tota is currently head of the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Calabria, Italy, where he founded the Laboratory of Comparative Cardiovascular Physiology.  His expertise lies in the evolutionary morpho-functional design of the heart, cardiac hormones, nitric oxide and signalling.  Recent studies focus on the novel cardio-regulatory role of chromogranin A-derived peptides of recent characterization.
