Presentation Title
Gastro-protective role of Nitrate and Nitrite (Summary of Presentation)
Dr Holm is currently a Professor in Physiology, Department of Medical Cell Biology, Division of Integrative Physiology, Uppsala University and Study Director for different courses in Physiology.
Dr Holm received her PhD in Physiology at Uppsala University in 1985 and completed post-doctoral work in the laboratory of Professor D. Neil Granger, Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama. From 1985-1992, she was an Assistant Professor and from 1992-2002, she was an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Department of Medical Cell Biology at Uppsala University.
Dr Holm is a member of various medical boards and societies. She also organized international meetings and has been an invited speaker and chairman at many international conferences.
Dr Holm’s research interests have focused on gastrointestinal mucosal barrier functions in health and disease. She has mainly performed in vivo studies in mice and rats of the GI mucosal microcirculation including leukocyte-endothelial interactions, mucus layer dynamics and acid transport through mucus, epithelial ion transport and permeability. Holm’s main research interests now concern protective mechanisms by nitrate/nitrite and NO in upper GI inflammation and probiotics in colitis models.
