Presentation Title
Reactions of Heme Models Involving Nitrite.  Oxygen atom transfer and Catalytic processes derived from Iron-Nitrite interactions. (Summary of Presentation)

A native Californian, Professor Ford completed his undergraduate work at Caltech followed by graduate study of organic oxidations at Yale University. He spent the following year as a NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University. Since then he has been a faculty member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a recipient of an Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung US Senior Scientist Research Award.  In 2004 -2006, he was President of the InterAmerican Photochemical Society.  He has published over 300 research papers and has graduated more than 50 PhD students.

Professor Ford’s research is concerned with understanding thermal and photochemical reaction mechanisms of metal complexes including bioinorganic chemistry of the nitrogen oxides.
