Speaker Topic
Nitrite-induced Cardioprotection: Role of Xanthine Oxidoreductase

Dr Ahluwalia is currently Reader in Clinical Pharmacology at The William Harvey Research Institute in Queen Mary’s School of Medicine & Dentistry in London. Prior to this she worked, as a lecturer, in Clinical Pharmacology at University College London.

Dr Ahluwalia’s work focuses on understanding the mechanisms of vascular homeostasis in inflammation, particularly on the role of the endothelium. More recent research projects in her laboratory include studies investigating the role of endothelium-derived hyperpolarising factor (EDHF) in cardiovascular protection, the role of C-type natriuretic peptide as an EDHF, dissection of the mechanisms involved in vascular inducible nitric oxide synthase expression in sepsis and the mechanisms involved in nitrite-induced cardioprotection.
