Presentation Summary

Dr. Ping is the Director of the Proteomics Laboratory at the Cardiovascular Research Laboratory of the University of California, Los Angeles; a position she has held since 2004. Since 2002 she has also been a Professor in the Department of Physiology and Medicine, Division of Cardiology, at the University of California, Los Angeles. Before that Dr. Ping was an Associate Professor (2000-2002) and Assistant Professor (1996-2000) in the Department of Physiology, Division of Cardiology at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

Dr. Ping received her PhD in 1990 from the University of Arizona. She conducted her postdoctoral research first at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1991-1992) and then at the University of California, San Diego (1992-1994) in the field of molecular cardiology.

Dr. Ping was elected as a Fellow of the American Heart Association in 1999. Dr. Ping’s research involves the investigation of the intracellular signaling events that underlie myocardial pathophysiology associated with cardiac diseases. Her recent studies have implicated the protein kinase C epsilon isoform as one of the essential elements involved in the cardiac protection against ischemic stress (ischemic preconditioning) and in the regulation of cardiac hypertrophy associated with heart failure.
