New Perspectives on the Role of Mitochondria in Heart Disease (Oct. 6, 10:45 AM)

Brian O’Rourke is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology of The Johns Hopkins University, a position he has held since 2004. Before that he was Associate Professor (2000–2004) and Assistant Professor (1993–2000) in the same department. Dr. O’Rourke also directs the Multiphoton Laser Scanning Microscope Facility at Hopkins and is a faculty member of the Institute for Computational Medicine and of the Center for Cardiovascular Information and Modeling.

Dr. O’Rourke obtained his PhD from the Department of Physiology of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 1990. He then conducted his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Eduardo Marbán, under whose mentorship Dr. O’Rourke developed as a skilled cellular electrophysiologist.

Dr. O’Rourke’s laboratory uses an integrated approach to study the biophysics and physiology of cardiac cells in normal and diseased states. He directs a Program Project on mitochondrial function in cardiac disease.
