Alvin V. Thomas, MD is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and
Pulmonary Medicine at Howard University in Washington, DC. He is Chief
of the Pulmonary Division at Howard and presently serves as Graduate
Faculty Representative on the Howard University Board of Trustees. Dr.
Thomas received his medical degree from Howard University and did his
Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary Fellowship at the University
of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI. His scholarly and research
interests are in pulmonary vascular disease, particularly sickle cell
acute chest syndrome and pulmonary hypertension in sickle cell disease.
Dr. Thomas has been a member of the ACCP since 1973 and has been active
in the ACCP leadership since 1998, serving on several committees, including
the Continuing Education Committee. He was a Trustee of The CHEST Foundation
(1999-2003), Chair of the ACCP Scientific Program and Abstracts Committee
(2000-2001), and was Scientific Program Chair for CHEST 2002.
