Presentation Title
Biomedical Informatics for Critical Care
Geoffrey T. Manley, MD, PhD is Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at UCSF and Chief of Neurotrauma at San Francisco General Hospital. As a graduate of the Medical Scientist Training Program at Cornell University Medical College, Dr. Manley also holds a degree in Molecular Neuroscience. He is an accomplished investigator whose work spans basic, translational, and clinical research. His published manuscripts reflect his wide range of research interests from molecular aspects of brain injury to the clinical care of head trauma patients. He has recently defined a new molecular mechanism for cerebral edema that may lead to new treatments for this devastating consequence of brain injury. He is also considered an expert in the rapidly growing field of advanced neuromonitoring and clinical informatics for critical care. His work has been presented at numerous national and international meetings. His numerous honors include the General Motors Trauma Research Award, the Synthes Head Injury Research Award, and a Trauma Research Award from the American College of Surgeons, National Committee on Trauma. He is a member of the Executive Committee for the Joint Section of Trauma and Critical Care for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons and serves as the National Director of the Neurotrauma practical course. In addition, he is a Consultant for the Prehospital Guidelines Committee for the World Health Organization.
