Dr. Manolio is Director of the Office of Population Genomics of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and Senior Advisor to the Director, NHGRI, for Population Genomics at the National Institutes of Health, a position she assumed in 2005. Dr. Manolio is also Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and was Director of the Epidemiology and Biometry Program in the Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Applications at NHLBI from 1994-2005, where she served as Medical Officer from 1987 to 1994.

Dr. Manolio holds a BS in biochemistry (1976) and an MD (1980) from the University of Maryland as well as an MHS in epidemiology (1987) and a PhD in human genetics and genetic epidemiology (2001) from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. She was a resident at Boston City Hospital (1980-1984) and a chief resident at DC General (1983-1984), and a fellow in the Division of Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital (1984-1987).

A co-author of more than 190 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Manolio’s research interests include an array of issues in cardiovascular health of older adults and the use of genetics and genomics in population studies.
