Speaker Topic: Proteomic Global Profiling for
Cancer Biomarker Discovery
Dr. Hanash's interests and expertise focus on the development
and application of integrated approaches to the molecular profiling
of cancer, with particular emphasis on proteomics. Dr. Hanash's
Ph.D. training is in human genetics and his clinical training in
pediatric oncology. He was a program principal investigator (PI)
for multi-investigator projects funded by the National Cancer Institute
(NCI) while at the University of Michigan, including program projects.
Most recently he has been the PI for an NCI-funded Director's Challenge
program, which focuses on molecular profiling of lung, colon, and
ovarian cancer; and PI of an NCI-funded Cancer Biomarker Development
program, which focuses on the application of proteomics to the
discovery of protein markers for the early diagnosis of lung and
GI cancers. Dr. Hanash has organized and participated in several
workshops sponsored by the NCI on cancer diagnostics and molecular
profiling. He recently relocated from the University of Michigan
to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center to lead a newly developed
program in Molecular Diagnostics. Dr. Hanash will serve as program
director for this project.
