Speaker Topic: The HapMap Project
Dr. Brooks became the Program Director of the NIH Genetic Variation
Program at the National Human Genome Research Institute in 1997.
Prior to this appointment she was a Research Assistant in the Biology
Departments at the University of California, San Diego, and Stanford
University. She was then a Research Associate in the Statistics
Department at North Carolina State University. From 1987-1994
Dr. Brooks was an Assistant Professor of Biology and Medicine in
the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department at Brown University.
From 1994 -1997 she was the Program Officer in the Division of
Environmental Biology in the Population Biology Program at the
National Science Foundation.
Recipient of the NIH Director's Award for the HapMap Project (2003)
and the NHGRI Awards of Merit for the HapMap Project and the CEGS
Program (2002, 2003), Dr. Brooks has written three requests for
applications at NHGRI.
Dr. Brooks received her B.S. in Biology from Stanford University
and her Ph.D. in Biology from Harvard University.
